Water Baptism

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. –1 Corinthians 12:13

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy SpiritMatthew 28:19

And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away-your sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16

Why Are We Baptized

Baptism is a symbol of a commitment, much like a wedding ring. When a couple marries, they give each other a wedding ring. This ring does not make them married; the promise and covenant they made to each other makes them married. The ring is a symbol to others of that promise and covenant they made in their hearts. Like the wedding ring, baptism is a symbol  before God and man of the promise and covenant a person makes in his heart with Jesus.
