Served by the Savior—The Gift We Didn’t Expect: Advent Day Seventeen

Read:
Mark 10:44 (NIV)
“Whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.”
Reflect
When Jesus calls us to greatness, He flips the world’s idea of it upside down. He says, “If you want to be first, become the servant of all.” That’s not what we’re used to hearing—and honestly, serving others, especially when it costs us something, isn’t easy.
But here’s where the gospel is radically different from every other religion or self-help message out there: Jesus doesn’t just tell us to serve—He came to serve us first.
Mark 10:45 makes it clear:
“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus isn’t glorified by our help. He doesn’t need us to prop Him up. Instead, God is so full—so overflowing with life, love, and power—that He glorifies Himself by pouring out that fullness for us. The heart of Christianity isn’t that we serve a needy God, but that a loving God stoops down to serve us.
Every command Jesus gives isn’t just a standard to measure up to; it’s an invitation for Him to meet us right there, to carry our burdens, and empower us to do it. He calls us to serve, but He’s the one who gives us the strength, the heart, and the power to actually live it out.
This Christmas, remember: Jesus came not to get your service, but to serve you—with forgiveness, with strength, with hope, and with His very life. The greatest gift is to be served by the King—then, out of that fullness, we get to serve others.

Why Don’t I Care? Steps to Overcoming Spiritual Apathy
March 12th, 2026
One of the most frustrating parts of my life is that I’m not as passionate about God as I should be. I imagine many Christians feel similarly. There are some, however, for whom this feeling goes deep and lasts long. Some of us may find ourselves in the midst of a long stretch of feeling fairly indifferent about the things of God. We know that Bible reading, prayer, church involvement, missions, eva...
Encountering Jesus at Your Well: Finding Living Water in Places of Avoidance
March 9th, 2026
Take a moment and imagine a deserted landscape at high noon. Rolling plains stretch before you, perhaps a bit parched and brown. In the distance, mountain ranges frame the horizon. The heat is oppressive—the kind that makes most people seek shelter. At the center of this scene sits an ancient well, and beside it, a solitary figure waits. This isn't just any traveler resting from a journey. This is ...

Most days, we’re commuting, studying, parenting, working, doing the dishes, mowing the lawn, or paying the bills.Do those activities count in God’s eyes? Does the munda...
