The Greatest Gift: God With Us and For Us

If you ever find yourself wondering what Advent and Christmas are truly about, look no further than Jesus Himself. Advent is about the Son of God-eternal, radiant, and perfectly reflecting the Father-stepping into human history. He didn't come as a distant deity, but as one of us, born of a virgin by the miracle of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35).

Jesus is not just any son, but the unique Son of God. In Him, "the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily" (Colossians 2:9). He's the One foretold by prophets: the ruler born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), the King from David's line who would bring justice and peace.

But here's the heart of it all: Jesus came not to be served, but to serve-and ultimately to give His life as a ransom for many. That is what Mark 10:45 is all about. At Christmas, we don't just celebrate a birth-we celebrate the arrival of the One who came to lay down His life for us.

This is the best present imaginable: Jesus offering Himself for you, not just once, but forever-to serve, to save, to walk with you for all eternity. Advent is an invitation to stop striving, to turn away from self-help and sin, and to trust Him with childlike faith.

Apply

• In what ways do you find yourself trying to earn God's love or help yourself, instead of simply trusting Jesus?

• How does it change your view of God to remember that Jesus came to serve you and to give His life for you?

Action Steps

• Take a quiet moment today to simply receive Jesus' love and service to you-don't try to earn it or figure it out, just let Him love you.

• Look for a small, practical way to serve someone else today, following the example of Jesus.

Prayer Points

• Pray for a heart that is humble and willing to receive from Jesus, not just try to do everything on your own.

• Ask God to help you become more like Jesus in how you serve and love others this Advent.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for coming not to be served, but to serve-and to give Your life for me. Help me trust You like a child and receive all that You have done for me. Teach me to follow Your example and serve others with Your love. Amen.

This Advent, open your heart to the best gift of all-Jesus Himself, given for you.
