Open the Eyes of Your Heart—Seeing Christ for Who He Is: Advent Day Twenty-One

Read:
Matthew 16:15–17 (NIV)
“‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’
Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’
Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.’”
Reflect
As Christmas draws near, are your eyes ready to see Jesus for who He truly is? When Peter declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Jesus told him it wasn’t human wisdom that revealed this truth, but a gift from the Father.
That’s still true for us today. Real faith isn’t just learning facts about Jesus—it’s having the eyes of our hearts opened to His glory and beauty. This isn’t something we can manufacture or force. It’s a miracle God loves to do as we look to His Son.
If you or someone you know has doubts, don’t go searching for mystical experiences or special messages. Go to Jesus. Open the Bible. Read about His life, listen to His words, watch His compassion and power. God delights to open blind eyes when they are fixed on Jesus!
So as you prepare your heart for Christmas, ask God to open your eyes. Pray for a spiritual sight that sees Jesus as the all-glorious Son of God—wiser, kinder, holier, and more satisfying than anything this world offers. Let your heart echo Peter: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”
Quotes for Today:
“Saving faith is based on a spiritual sight of Jesus as he is in himself, the all-glorious Son of God.”
“God delights to open the eyes of the blind when they are looking at his Son.”
