John 3:16 (NIV)
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." |
Reflect
Let this truth wash over you: The God who is-who always has been, who always will be-loves. It's not just something God does; it's who He is. The same John who wrote John 3:16 also says, "God is love" (1 John 4:8). That means the very heart of God beats with a giving, selfless love.
Think about it. God, who needs nothing, chooses to give. He leans toward us, not to take, but to bless. And in John 3:16, Jesus shows us exactly what that love looks like:
"God so loved the world…"
That little word "so" is about how God loves, not just how much. God loved in this way: He gave. He gave His most precious treasure-His only Son.
But this wasn't just a gift wrapped in a bow. The Father sent His Son to be rejected, to be misunderstood, to die a rugged, costly, sacrificial death. That's the kind of love Christmas is all about-a love that gives everything, even when it hurts.
And here's the miracle: God gives this kind of powerful, costly love not to perfect people, but to a lost and undeserving world. To us.
So this Advent, celebrate the love that gives and keeps on giving. Rest in the wonder that the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of a love that would not hold anything back-not even His only Son.
