From Shadows to Song—A New Heart for Christmas: Advent Day Twenty-Two

Read:
 Hebrews 8:4–10 (NIV)
“There are priests who offer gifts according to the law. They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. … But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises. …
‘This is the covenant I will establish … I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.’”

Reflect
Christmas is a time for singing, and today we see why we really do have something worth singing about!

First, Christmas means the shadows are gone—the reality has come. All the Old Testament ceremonies, sacrifices, and laws were glimpses pointing forward to Jesus. Now, in Christ, the true High Priest and perfect sacrifice has come. The reality is here, and His name is Jesus.

But the good news goes deeper. Christmas means God moves closer than ever—He writes His truth, His law, and His love right on our hearts. No more just following rules from the outside in. God’s Spirit makes us new on the inside so we can love, trust, and follow Jesus freely, joyfully, and from the heart.

This is the miracle of the new covenant: God didn’t just offer us the greatest gift—Himself. He also makes sure our hearts can receive, enjoy, and delight in Him. We’re not left to try harder on our own. God Himself moves in and gives us a new song to sing.

That’s something truly worth celebrating—not just at Christmas, but every day.

Quotes for Today:
“God replaces shadows with reality, and writes His love on our hearts.”
“The greatest gift is not just Jesus with us, but Jesus alive in us.”

Apply
  • Where are you still living in the shadows—trying to earn God’s love or approval through your own efforts?
  • How does it change your heart to know God Himself writes His love and truth inside you through Jesus?

Action Steps
  1. Thank God today for sending Jesus to fulfill every promise and for giving you a new heart that delights in Him.
  2. Choose a favorite Christmas song or hymn and sing it as a prayer, celebrating the reality of Jesus in your life.

Prayer Points
  1. Praise God for replacing shadows with the reality of Christ and for the miracle of the new covenant.
  2. Ask the Holy Spirit to keep writing God’s truth and love deeper into your heart, giving you freedom and joy to follow Him.
