Advent Day Six: Christmas Shouts “Glory to God”

Advent Devotional • Day 6

John 12:27-28 (NIV)
"Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!"

Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again."

Christmas Shouts "Glory to God"

Think about that famous Christmas scene: angels breaking into the stillness of night to announce Jesus' birth to shepherds, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests!" (Luke 2:14, NIV). The message is clear-Christmas is, at its core, about the glory of God.

Jesus came to put God's glory on display. And as we fast forward to the end of His earthly ministry, we find Jesus-facing the cross-praying, "Father, glorify your name." Even in His darkest hour, Jesus' deepest desire was for God to be glorified.

God answers with thunderous affirmation: "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again." God's commitment to His own glory isn't selfish; it's the greatest good in the universe. His glory is overflowing with grace and truth. That's why John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory… full of grace and truth."

Christmas is God's glory on full display-not just in shining angels or a miraculous birth, but in a Savior willing to live, die, and rise for us. God didn't need us, but in His fullness, He overflows with grace toward us.

So as you celebrate this season, remember: The deepest reason we live for God's glory is because God Himself is passionate about His glory. And that is very good news-because His glory means grace upon grace for you.

Quotes for Today

"The birth of Christ is the central event in the history of the earth-the very thing the whole story has been about." - John Piper

"The glory of Christmas is not in what we give, but in what God has given us." - Adrian Rogers
