The Gift You Can Only Receive: Advent Day Nineteen

Read:
Acts 17:24–25 (NIV)
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.”
Reflect
We live in a world where almost everything can be bought, earned, or traded. But Christmas turns that upside down. The God who made everything—the One who holds all things together—does not need anything from us. He isn’t looking for our help or support. In fact, He already owns everything!
Scripture reminds us:
“Who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” (Romans 11:35)
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.” (Psalm 50:12)
So what does God want? Simply this: that you would receive. You can’t negotiate with Him or bargain for His favor. You can’t earn His love or impress Him with your gifts. All you can do is accept His spectacular offer to serve you with the gift of His Son.
This is what faith is—a heart that says, “God, I trust You. I let You be my Savior, my Strength, my everything. I receive what only You can give.” This is the posture of Christmas: open hands, not bargaining chips. Let God be the Giver. Let yourself simply enjoy Him.
Quotes for Today:
“Christmas means: the infinitely self-sufficient God has come not to be assisted but to be enjoyed.” – John Piper
“All we can do is submit to His spectacular offer to be our servant.” – John Piper

Read: Mark 10:44 (NIV) “Whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.”ReflectWhen Jesus calls us to greatness, He flips the world’s idea of it upside down. He says, “If you want to be first, become the servant of all.” That’s not what we’re used to hearing—and honestly, serving others, especially when it costs us something, isn’t easy. But here’s where the gospel is radically different from every...
