Acts 3:22-26 (NIV)
"Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.'
Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days. And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, 'Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.'
When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways." |
Reflect
One of the greatest gifts of Advent is the reminder that God always keeps His word. Peter, speaking to his listeners in Acts, stacks up the promises: Moses pointed to a coming prophet, Samuel and the prophets foretold these days, and God made a covenant with Abraham that all nations would be blessed through his descendants. All these promises find their "Yes" in Jesus.
When Jesus came, He showed us once and for all that God is trustworthy. He is the anchor in a world where everything else is shifting. Paul puts it plainly in Romans 15:8 (NIV): "For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed."
Christmas is God's way of saying, "You can count on Me." He's not just making promises-He's fulfilling them. That's the blessing we receive, and it's one we can pass on: God is faithful, God is true, and God can be trusted.
When we lose sight of God's truthfulness, life can feel unmoored-like a ship without an anchor. But when we cling to His promises, we find stability, hope, and the foundation for living with courage and integrity.
