A Personal Challenge to Pray and Invite Others to Encounter Jesus

Start With Prayer

Before you invite, pray for the people on your heart this Easter.

Easter is almost here, and it's one of the greatest opportunities we have as a church to invite people to meet Jesus.

Studies show that 82% of unchurched people would consider attending church if someone personally invited them, and Easter is one of the days when people are most open to saying yes.

That's exciting, but let's also be honest-it can feel intimidating, can't it?

I know firsthand the challenge of consistently carrying a burden for others who need Jesus, while also overcoming the fear or hesitation that comes with inviting someone to church.

There's always that little voice in your head saying, What if they say no? What if this makes things awkward? What if I'm not the right person for this?

But here's what I've learned-and what I want to encourage you with:

We're not in this alone.

The Holy Spirit is with us, working in our hearts and in the hearts of the people He's calling us to invite. And prayer is the key to navigating both the burden we feel for others and the courage we need to follow through.

So, as we prepare for Easter, let's commit to praying intentionally-for the people we plan to invite and for one another as we step out in faith.

Here's how we can do that together.

Section One

Praying for the People You're Inviting

When you pray for someone you plan to invite, you're doing more than asking God to help them say yes. You're inviting God to go before you, work in their hearts, and prepare the way for them to encounter His love.

Here are three specific ways to pray for them:

Pray for Their Hearts to Be Open

You can't change someone's heart, but God can.

In John 6:44, Jesus says, "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them."

This reminds us that salvation is God's work, not ours.

Pray that God would soften their hearts and help them be receptive to your invitation.

Prayer Example

Lord, I pray for [Name]. Please prepare their heart to hear Your invitation this Easter. Remove anything that might stand in the way of them saying yes, and help them to feel Your love through this simple invitation.

Sometimes the hardest part is just knowing where to start.

But chances are, God has already placed someone in your life who’s ready for an invitation.

Here are 5 simple, natural ways to invite someone to Easter:

1. Send a Quick Text
Keep it easy: “Hey! I’m going to Easter at Celebration this weekend — want to come with me? I’ll save you a seat.”

2. Share on Social
Post a photo or share an Easter graphic and say: “Easter at Celebration is this weekend — come sit with me!”

3. Make It Easy
Offer to grab coffee, ride together, or meet them there. Removing friction makes a big difference.

4. Be Personal
Let them know why you thought of them. A genuine invite goes further than a general one.

5. Pray First
Ask God who to invite, then take the step. He’s already at work in people’s hearts.

Your invitation matters
Most people are more open than we think—they’re just waiting for someone to ask.
